(STEVENS POINT, Wis.) - Nov. 4 marks 100 days until the opening ceremony of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Canada. To celebrate, the United States Olympic Committee is hosting an Olympic Festival at Rockefeller Center on Nov. 4 in New York City featuring a curling demonstration.
2010 U.S. Olympic Team for Curling members John Shuster (Duluth, Minn.), Jason Smith (Cape Coral, Fla.), Jeff Isaacson (Gilbert, Minn.), John Benton (St. Michael, Minn.), Debbie McCormick (Rio, Wis.), Allison Pottinger (Eden Prairie, Minn.), Nicole Joraanstad (Madison, Wis.) and Natalie Nicholson (Bemidji, Minn.) will be joined by 2010 U.S. Paralympic Team for Wheelchair Curling members Augusto Perez (East Syracuse, N.Y.), James Joseph (New Hartford, N.Y.) and Jacqueline Kapinowski (Point Pleasant, N.J.).
All eight Olympic sports will be represented at the Olympic Festival, which is highlighted by the USOC's Making Team USA program, which provides an inside look at what it takes to become a member of America's Team and recognizes athletes as they are nominated to the USOC for inclusion on the team.
Having already qualified at the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Curling held in February (and a selection event for the Paralympic members), the curlers will be recognized as the first members to be nominated to the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team and presented with Team USA hats. A curling demonstration will follow with coverage on NBC's "Today Show" throughout the morning.
A curling booth will be on display featuring curling equipment. An autograph session with the Olympic curlers also is on tap.
