McCormick reaches semifinals in Ontario

Media Day slated Dec. 17 in Green Bay

Curling demonstration set at Lambeau Field

Tour Tested - The 2010 U.S. Olympic Team for Women's Curling followed up its World Curling Tour win two weeks ago with a semifinal finish in Brantford, Ontario, at the Sunlife Classic. They fell to Canada's JoAnn Rizzo, 4-3, in the semifinals to suffer the team's lone loss. The team quickly won its first four games and earned the first playoff spot, which meant they would sit for more than 24 hours without a game. After winning their quarterfinal match, 5-1, the team moved on to the semifinals this morning at this 32-team event featuring two other top American teams and many of Canada's top teams. John Shuster's 2010 U.S. Olympic Team for Men's Curling just missed the playoffs to finish with a 4-3 record but beat a formidable opponent in 2007 world champion Glenn Howard. 2006 Olympic bronze medalist Pete Fenson also finished 4-3. Americans Erika Brown of Oakville, Ontario (2-3), and Patti Lank of Lewiston, N.Y. (1-3) also competed. The 2010 Olympians will return to WCT action in December. McCormick's team is set to compete at the Korbel Classic, Dec. 3-6, in Madison, Wis., while Shuster's squad is scheduled to play in the Eveleth Cashspiel, Dec. 10-13, in Eveleth, Minn.

Media Day - USA Curling will hold a media day on Dec. 17 in Green Bay, Wis., with the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team for Curling. The all-day media camp includes opportunities for interviews and to tape footage on the ice at the Green Bay Curling Club, 781 Potts Ave. This corresponds with the ninth and final high performance preparation camp for the teams prior to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Members of both the men's and women's 2010 U.S. Olympic Team as well as coaching and tactical staff members will be available to the media. After the camp, the teams will be available to the media at events and on a pre-arranged basis (as scheduled with USA Curling Communications Director Terry Kolesar) up until Jan. 23 (women's team) and Jan. 30 (men's team), and not again thereafter until they arrive in Vancouver for pre-Olympic practice. If you're planning to attend, please email Terry Kolesar at terry.kolesar@usacurl.org.

Lambeau Demo - Members of the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team for Curling and 2010 Paralympic team will take part in a curling demonstration in the parking lot at historical Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wis., prior to the Dec. 7 Monday Night Football match-up between the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens. Slated to help out at the demonstration are Debbie McCormick (Rio, Wis.), Coach Wally Henry (Beaver Dam, Wis.), Chris Plys (Duluth, Minn.) and Augusto Perez (East Syracuse, N.Y.).
